Zoya Edyta

Hey everyone!

Long time, no talk!  I feel like each time I take a break from blogging (which has been a lot lately! sorry!) that my first post back is always me explaining how busy I am and why I haven't been posting. I'm not going to do that this time. No excuses, just lots of nail polish swatches here!

Today, I have some swatches of Zoya's Edyta to share with you all. Edyta is a deep olive green with a gold, blue and green micro-shimmer. This polish is gorgeous! The green shade is very dark and can almost look black in some lighting, which really makes the shimmer pop. (Perfect for fall!) This covered well and was extremely easy to work with. I used two coats!

Since this polish has so much shimmer, it is a little messy to take off. If you're familiar with the foil method to remove glitter polishes, I would definitely recommend that you do that with this one!

Mary Kay CC Cream Review!

Hey everyone! Oh my goodness, it has been such a stressful week! I am going on vacation next week (woot woot!), but that means that I had a work load equivalent to two weeks this week, so everyday I was going into work early and staying late. Then to top it off, I was on the way to the grocery store today and saw a baby kitten get hit by a car in the middle of the highway. I quickly pulled over and ran into the middle of the road, and managed to save the poor little guy. I rushed him to the animal hospital, where he had surgery, and I'm so happy to say he will be ok! However, now I have an extra cat that I don't really have room for. I plan on nursing him back to health and then I will try to find him a new home. Wish me luck!

About a month ago, Mary Kay was generous enough to send me a package full of products to try out. My favorite of all of the products they sent was their CC cream. I had never used a CC cream before and just usually used my Bare Minerals Foundation. I absolutely love wearing this stuff, and have been using it everyday! It has made my skin so smooth and has really evened out my skin tone. It also applied really smooth and doesn't look cakey under my powder, which is awesome!

For those of you who don't know what CC cream is: CC means "Color Correcting." CC cream is meant to even out your skin tone and moisturize. (Most contain SPF as well) The Mary Kay CC Cream is a pretty decent size (1 oz) and I usually use 1 1/2 pumps to cover my whole face. I'm guessing this will last me about 5 months. This retails for $20 on the Mary Kay website.

Here are some pictures:

This is the shade "very light." It comes off a little orange in the pictures, but it blends really well and matches my pale skin tone perfectly!

JORD Wood Watch Review

Hey everyone!

Awhile ago, someone from JORD watches contacted me and was wondering it I would like to try out one of their wood watches. Now, I'm not really a big watch wearer, but my brother-in-law is, so I said yes with the plan of giving him the watch to try it out.

The watch I was sent was the Ely Series in Black (Retails for $129) Here is the specific info that JORD has provided:

The Ely series is our elegant, small-face design. This is that kind of watch that makes you grin for no apparent reason. Light, sexy, and compact design makes this a popular, everyday watch. There are no numbers on this watch other than the date (but we'll assume you already know how to tell time).
  • Hardened, Scratch-proof glass face: 26mm diameter
  • Frame / bezel: 34mm diameter
  • Band width: 21.5mm
  • Lug ends: 40mm
  • Single action locking clasp (stainless steel)
  • Premium Citizen Miyota movement with date window
Each JORD watch is designed to be splash proof but is not intended for complete submergence in water. Also note that due to the nature of the wood chosen for each unique timepiece, colors and grain pattern may vary from photos.

This watch is so beautiful! I had never really seen a watch made from natural wood before, so I definitely thought that this was really neat. It even smelled like wood!

I personally think that this has more of a masculine look to it, and would definitely be more suited for men than women. Then again, like I said--I'm not that into watches, so maybe there are some women out there that would enjoy wearing this!

When I gave this to my brother-in-law, he was really excited at first, but became quickly disappointed when we realized that the watch was too small for his wrist. Yes, my brother-in-law has slightly larger wrists than your average guy, but I don't think that they are that big. We played around with the watch for awhile to see if there was a way to make it bigger, but it doesn't seem like that is possible.

When looking through JORD's website, I did notice that their other designs do get bigger or come in larger sizes, so it just appears that the one I selected was on the smaller scale.

Would I recommend the watch? Yes, but just look into sizing first!

Salon Perfect Flamingo Flair

Hey everyone!

I hope you're all well! Today, I have another Salon Perfect polish to share with you all in the shade Flamingo Flair.

Flamingo Flair is a bright peach crème. In some lighting this can also appear to have a slight hint of pink to it as well. This one applied really smooth and was pretty easy to do thin coats. (I was actually really surprised by this. I'm newer to the Salon Perfect brand and I've heard a lot of other bloggers talk about how thick and difficult the formula is to work with) This will dry matte, so a top coat is necessary. I used three coats of polish and two coats of Miracote top coat.

This retails for about $3 at Walmart.

Do any of you guys have much experience with the Salon Perfect brand? If so, do you like it?

Salon Perfect Gold Leaf

Hey everyone! I'm back today with some swatches of Salon Perfect's Gold Leaf! Gold Leaf is from Salon Perfect's Paint the Town Red, White and Blue collection and is limited edition. For those of you who don't know much about Salon Perfect, it's made by the same company who makes China Glaze and it's sold exclusively at Walmart. This is my first time trying it out, so I don't have much to say about how it compares to China Glaze's quality. It's quite a bit cheaper though, so I'll probably be trying it out more.

Gold Leaf is a metallic gold shimmer. I had a little bit of a hard time working with this one, which will definitely be noticeable in my swatches. It was a little on the thick side, which made applying thin coats really difficult. I really love the shade though, and think it looks great with or without a top coat. I used two coats.

P.S: A giveaway will be going up tomorrow morning, so keep an eye out for that! :)

Happy Birthday, Linus!

Hey everyone!

Exactly one year ago today, my kitten Linus was born! I cannot even explain how much joy this little guy has brought me over the last year. I know that I am probably officially crossing over into crazy cat lady territory with this blog post, but I could not let this day pass without sharing some of my favorite pictures of Linus from this past year.

I have another kitten named Lucy, and I'm just dying to get a third and final one (I'd love to get another boy so I could name him Rerun!), but being a single woman with three cats just sounds like a terrible idea. Kitten season will be coming up here soon though, so who knows if I'll be able to stop myself.

Feel free to leave me a comment below trying to talk me out of this! :)

Winter Accessories from Choies!

Hey everyone!

I was recently given the opportunity to try out some winter accessories from Choies. For those of you who have never heard of Choies, it's an online women's apparel and accessories site that has a wide variety of styles for pretty affordable prices.

Here are the items that I was sent to try out:

This hat is very big and poofy and looked really silly on me. (That was just my opinion though. Some people I've showed this to actually really like it) It was definitely warm and comfortable, which is important, especially when you live in the frigid north like I do. If you're looking for something to keep you warm and don't mind having a huge ball on the top of your head, then this is for you! :)

This is just your basic fitted hat. It was warm and looked great, so I love it!

This scarf is so cute! I really love it. However, it was advertised as yellow, and it definitely comes off as a lime green shade. I was really hoping for the yellow, since it would match more of my other winter accessories, but I guess the green is fine too.

What do you guys think? Have any of you tried out any Choies products before?

Love from Linus:

Zoya Piaf

Hey everyone!

I can't believe today is actually Saturday. I had all of these posts planned for the week, but then worked about 65 hrs, and ended up getting nothing done! I guess that's how things work sometimes.

Today, I have some swatches of Zoya's Piaf to share with you all! Piaf is a beautiful light golden shimmer. This yellow really reminds me of the dress that Belle wears in Beauty and the Beast. This covered very well and I used two coats. It was a little hard to clean up with the shimmer. (you'll notice this in my pictures) I wore this for about four days (with Miracote) before I started noticing any chipping.

Piaf is from Zoya's Spring 2013 Lovely Collection and retails for $9.

Love from Linus and Lucy:

Zoya Pandora

Hey everyone!

Today, I have some great swatches of Zoya's Pandora to share with you all! Pandora is a beautiful rose-beige nude. Zoya says that this has a "pearly silver shimmer", but honestly, the shimmer is only slightly noticeable in the bottle and practically non-existent on your hands.

This one is extremely pigmented, so you could probably get away with one coat, but I ended up using two anyway. If I use two coats of Miracote on top of this, I could probably get about 5-6 days of wear without any chipping.

Before I get into the pictures, I'm going to apologize for my ugly, short nails. I was organizing my den this weekend and went to pick up a Rubbermaid container, thinking that it was empty, but it wasn't. Here it ended up being one of my Harry Potter containers (yes, it's true. I have so much HP stuff that I need special storage), and it was so heavy that I ended up dropping it and broke three of my nails. My nails were all beautiful and long, and within seconds, they weren't. It was traumatizing.

Anyway, here's Pandora:

January Favorites!

Hey everyone!

After an extremely long hiatus from blogging, I can officially say that I'm back! Thank you all for your kind emails and messages when I was gone! You all have been so amazingly supportive, and I'm truly grateful. I'm sure you all don't want to read through a list of reasons for my absence, so I'm just going to jump right back into things!

January is officially over, and I'm here to fill you all in on the products that I've been obsessed with over the last month. Let's get to it:

It has been so cold here (It was -20F here just last week!) and I think that this lotion is the reason why my eczema hasn't taken over my hands yet! Normally, every winter my hands turn all red and dry, but I started using this lotion three times a day back in November, and it seems to have done the trick. It smells nice and is really light on your hands. It also retails for only about $4.

I love my EcoTools brushes! They're very soft, affordable and made completely from recycled materials. I use this brush to apply my Bare Minerals foundation everyday.

My best friend got me this lipstick for Christmas this past year and it's definitely become a favorite of mine. I have very pale skin, so this is a little bright on me, but I really love how it looks. It also applies ultra smooth and seems to last for a few hours. If you've never tried Mac lipsticks before, I would definitely recommend them!

I purchased this palette back in mid-December and have been using it everyday since! These rose toned shadows are great for an everyday look. I've gotten a little bit lazy with applying my makeup lately and haven't been applying a base, and these colors still have been lasting all day, which is awesome!

I've been wearing this polish pretty much everyday this past month. It's a beautiful pink toned nude color, which goes perfect with my pale skin tone. I have a post with some great swatches of this scheduled to go live at the end of this week, so make sure to check that out!

The Body Shop's Mango Body Scrub
One of my clients gave this to me as a Christmas gift this past year, and I've been loving it! This body scrub smells so good and will make your skin super soft. And yes, it's for when you shower. When I was first given it, I made the mistake of assuming it was a lotion scrub (Dumb, I know...but there were no directions on the packaging!) and put some on my hands in between work meetings and was walking around with sticky hands for about 3 hours.

That's it for my January favorites. I'll be having some great polish swatches going up soon, so keep your eye out for those!

Thanks for reading!
